DYER | Town officials will meet with St. John Township Trustee Jean Shepherd to ask if the township will pay more for the fire protection it receives from Dyer.
This year, the township has paid $24,645 as part of the fire service agreement with Dyer. The cost of providing services continues to go up, but the compensation from the township has not, Town Manager Joe Neeb said at the November Town Council study session.
After reviewing expenses, the town determined it needs more compensation so that it can continue to serve the unincorporated portion of St. John Township, Neeb said.
Also at the study session, Neeb announced he has included the annual payment Dyer makes to the St. John Township bus service on a list of possible 2009 budget reductions. The Town Council gave the program $1,500 this year.
